Belt and Road Low-Altitude Economy Delegation Explores Innovation at HKUST

In November 2025, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Belt and Road Low-Altitude Economy Initiative, led by Mr. SONG Ronghua—Founder of the Silk Road Cities Alliance, Director of the Belt and Road Construction Committee under the China Society of Economic Reform, and a pioneering figure in low-altitude economy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The purpose of their visit was to learn about HKUST’s Low-Altitude Economy Research Centre and its related projects in this rapidly advancing field. This engagement served as a valuable opportunity to showcase HKUST’s research achievements and innovative initiatives in low-altitude economy, while fostering meaningful exchange and exploring pathways for future collaboration with industry experts.

During the visit, the delegation was hosted by key members of the University, including:

  • Professor LI Mo – Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Division of Integrative Systems and Design; Director of Low Altitude Economy Research Center

  • Professor LI Songfan – Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Member of the Low-Attitude Economy Research Centre

  • Professor Jack Chin Pang CHENG- Associate Head and Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

  • Dr. David LEUNG – Head (Smart System and Project Development)

  • Mr. David CHOI– Manager (Technology Development)

The itinerary included presentations and demonstrations on the Centre’s ongoing research, spanning areas such as unmanned aerial systems, airspace management technologies, and smart logistics applications. The delegation also visited the Logistics and Supply Chain Multi-Technology R&D Centre (LSCM) to observe how low-altitude technologies integrate with next-generation supply chain solutions.

Mr. SONG Ronghua expressed great appreciation for the depth of innovation and applied research demonstrated by the HKUST team. Both sides engaged in productive dialogue regarding potential collaborative projects, policy development, and talent cultivation in support of the growing low-altitude economy sector.
