On June 2, 2021, the Technology Transfer Center and Entrepreneurship Center co-hosted an intellectual property (IP) seminar “What HKUST Researchers Need to Know about Patents” online via Zoom. The online seminar attracted around 90 participants.

Mr. James HAYNES, a U.S. attorney who has been working with Tee and Howe Intellectual Property Attorneys in Beijing since 2004, provided an overview of patent progression from initial concept to marketable product, and introduced the different types of patent tools available to HKUST researchers.

Mr. James also discussed how to find a research topic that is likely to get patent funding and how to communicate with a patent attorney when writing a patent.
