Advancing Biomedical Innovation: HKUST at the BIO International Convention 2026

The global life sciences community recently converged on San Diego for the prestigious BIO International Convention 2026. Representing the vanguard of regional scientific achievement, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) proudly participated alongside top-tier global innovators within the unified Hong Kong Pavilion.

As a cornerstone of Hong Kong's rapidly expanding biotechnology ecosystem, HKUST-backed ventures actively utilized this international stage to forge deep connections with global clinical partners, leading research institutions, and healthcare investors. These cross-border collaborations are critical to translating raw academic discoveries into scalable, meaningful patient care.

Spotlighting Four Awarded HKUST Biotechnology Startups

HKUST is proud to showcase four pioneering, award-winning biotechnology startups that are actively redefining international therapeutic and diagnostic standards:

  • Cognitact (康至德)
The team has developed PlasmarkAD®, a globally exclusive, AI-powered multi-protein blood test. By analyzing 22 specific blood proteins, this innovative diagnostic tool can detect Alzheimer's disease with an astounding accuracy rate of over 96% before clinical symptoms even appear.
  • EnKang Pharmaceuticals (恩康藥業)
EnKang is developing a highly efficacious, first-in-class non-invasive vaginal gel targeting Defective Ribosomal Products (DRIPs). This medical breakthrough selectively eradicates cervical cancer and precancerous cells, offering patients a powerful alternative to traditional surgical intervention.
  • Advent
By leveraging advanced AI- and data-driven computational approaches, Advent engineers tissue- and cell-specific artificial adeno-associated virus (AAV) capsids. This methodology successfully overcomes natural cellular delivery barriers, paving the way for advanced gene therapies aimed at treating complex neurological disorders like Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease.
  • DPBIO
DPBIO designs and provides specialized, high-throughput microfluidic systems. Their robust technology infrastructure optimizes and drastically accelerates early-stage drug research and development (R&D) pipelines as well as fundamental life science research.

Driving Global Impact from Hong Kong

The success of these four teams underscores HKUST’s dedication to bridging academic excellence with viable commercial health solutions. By empowering university spin-offs to take their research to the world stage, HKUST continues to cement Hong Kong’s status as a global hub for life sciences and health technology innovation.
